AROUND HELFORD RIVER

There is lots to see and do around the Helford River, and on the Lizard Peninsula itself.

Below are just some ideas!

Dog Walking

There are lots of lovely walks on the Lizard Peninsula; some from the campsite itself.

Tremayne Quay - Built by Sir Richard Vyvyan in 1847 anticipating a visit from Queen Victoria. She never actually came to the quay which is now owned by the National Trust. From the site walk back toward St. Martin approx 0.2 miles and before you go into the wooded area, take the small minor road on the left.  It is about 0.3 miles until you start the NT walk; this tranquil walk down to the quay from the road runs along the wooded creekside, is aprox. 6km there & back and takes about forty minutes.

Local Beaches

Sandy Beaches:

  • Church Cove (Gunwalloe, National Trust) - 6.5miles

  • Poldhu (National Trust) - 6.5miles

  • Kynance Cove (arrive early to guarantee parking, National Trust) - 10.5miles

Dog Friendly Beaches:

  • Bosahan Cove - 4mile drive to Helford & 1mile walk along the coast path.

  • Dollar Cove (Gunwalloe, National Trust) - 6.5miles

  • Kennack Sands East - 8.5miles

HORSE RIDING

Newton Equestrian are based at Mullion caters for all levels of riding experience from novice to the more advanced. Visit their website www.newton-equestrian.co.uk for more information on exhilarating beach ride, and the other things they can offer while you are staying with us at Helford River Camping.

On The River

You can bring your own dinghies (motor or sailing) and kayaks to launch on the river.  Unfortunately there is no direct access from the site. Small boats, kayaks and SUPs can be launched from Gweek (only accessible at high tide) Helford Village or St. Anthony (both only accessible from mid to high tide).  For advice on launching larger boats give Simon a call and he will be happy to advise!

The Sailing Club at Helford offers temporary membership at £95 per week, which will allow you to launch, store your boat on the pontoon or dinghy park and use the Club facilties. For more information, speak to Tracy on 01326 231006 - www.helfordriversc.co.uk

or Hire a Boat!

Sailaway have all sorts of boats suitable for friends or families; for fishing out in Falmouth Bay or for exploring the beautiful upper reaches of the Helford River or for lazing in one of the coves.  You will find more information at www.stanthony.co.uk

Road & Mountain Biking

Just popping on your bike to cycle to the local shop in Mawgan is popular with those campers who prefer the pedal power. There are trails near by, and lots of back roads to explore; one great idea is to cycle to Helford Village itself, and then take the Passenger Ferry to the North Shore. This opens up new areas to explore such as Trebah Gardens & Durgan Village, and you can refuel at the Ferryboat Inn, before getting the ferry back across the river.
